white autumn

I watched Garden State tonight with Ana. While the last song was playing – Let Go, by Frou Frou – we looked outside and looked at each other and had the same idea: what the hell are we doing inside when this white landscape is just waiting for us to jump right in? So we got dressed, got hats, mittens, scarves and ten layers of clothes, and ran outside.

We spent 2 hours playing in the snow, got back right around now… we had a gigantic snowball fight (Ana, Ese, Stefan, Matthias, Ivan, Anas, Pierre, Elodie, Sophie and I), we rolled down the hill on our asses, we ate snow, we went to the 10th floor kitchen and threw snowballs in there, and yelled our hearts out, and made little crazy videos and a HUGE ball that almost crashed against a car…

WINTER!

[edit: here are some photos..]

we’re going to attack!

the famous “crazy-flatmate-jump”

snow+girl=happiness

more snow, dinners and workshops.

here is a little review of what has happened in the past weeks – starting with the most important news: our mural is growing daily, making Ana and I happier and happier to have breakfast in our amazingly big and light kitchen.

we are hoping to have it finished by the end of the semester…

The other day I also FINALLY managed to talked to my dear C, who is too much of a busy man to pick up his phone. he rambled for five hours about veganism and hardxcore-ism and about how stupid and ignorant and boring the people he meets at the gym are, and then he yelled a thousand times that he doesn’t like snow and really sounded like a stubborn kid. I can’t help thinking he’s probably the only person in the WORLD who doesn’t enjoy snø :( It was an entertaining conversation AND I found out that his sister lived at FANTOFT this summer – isn’t it the coolest thing ever?

Speaking of fantoft, David came over last night, we invited him for dinner. Ana made her amazing tortilla and I just cooked some vegetable rice.

I told him about my obsession with Minnesota and Nebraska, which no one seems to understand – especially not Americans. oh well.. we hung out pretty much the whole evening, talking about accents, minnesota, art, synaesthesia, crazy Pi-obsessed geniuses, and physics. it was nice.

the weather’s going crazy around here. yesterday was the Great Flood, and today there’s a snow storm..

rainbow: day one

rainbow: day two

the platforms were actually evacuated because of the storm…

we got really, really excited.
When Gabriel and I went for a cigarette on the big roof terrace, we met HÃ¥kon and, after doing a little froggy dance (which, en passant, enabled me to spill coffee all over my freshly-washed grey sweater…), Gabriel built a midget snowman (it looked more like a fat lady with big big boobs.. but nevermind). it was cool.

On my way home from university, the storm was hitting it up, hardcore. It took pictures when I got off the bus, it was totally beautiful and made me very very happy.

I’m really hoping the snow will stay until tomorrow. Then we can go out in the morning and play in it.

the sisterhood of john tucker

tobi came over and let us turn him into a girl for an evening.
we improvised a slumber party with a midnight dinner (asian rice… with squash, mango, cashew nuts) – after which we piled up mattresses, pillows, a blanket on ana’s floor and settled down to watch silly movie #1 (John Tucker Must Die) and silly movie #2 ( The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).

can’t believe that today is friday!
apart from the fact that I got a billion things done today – I am proud to announce that, as I have finally registered at the local police station, brought in all the papers, photos, passport,… I am not an illegal immigrant anymore – this evening really felt like a sunday.. so knowing I have a whole weekend ahead of me (also considering I’ve got to read Twelfth Night by tuesday – go, Shakespeare, go, go!) was kind of a relief.

Still no sign of my Murder Mystery merch – the evil norwegian postal service strikes back..let’s just hope for the best!

last nite (she said, oh baby I feel so down)

fantastic.
I went to see Kings of Convenience at Hulen (there’s a review and a few photos here) and I got my picture taken with the guy who accompanied them on the bass, not because I am a celebrity person, but simply because he was making the funniest faces in the world so Essie and I laughed the whole gig through.

he looks like a psycho!

on our way back we saw the cutest hedgehog in the WORLD. at first the girls thought it was a rat, until I said,
wait, it’s a little too slow to be a rat

I rushed towards it to take a picture and I wanted to take it home SO bad.

why doesn’t everyone look like a hedgehog? the world would be a better place

oh and here’s a picture of my first ever club stamp in Norway.
celebration.

last-minute icing

Saturday night we celebrated baby-Etienne’s birthday.
we got him an awesome balloon that Hiroki couldn’t help but start playing with straight away. (I think his biggest dream is to join Cirque du Soleil.)

on the other side, it reads “I [heart] Étienne” but people seemed to enjoy playing with the Porno side more.

After dinner, Étienne got his presents. For the unwrapping ceremony, he was handed the magnificent “polka dot birthday shirt”.

free hugs!

the weirdest thing happened to me today.
I have been hugged by a norwegian.

If you know anything about Norway and the people here, you probably also know that sober girls who are in like, ONE of your classes and who you have only small-talked with do NOT hug you in the middle of the day.
That just doesn’t happen.

but it’s happened to me! oh my. it was so cute, I thought I should write about it.
:)

concerts, heroes, and defrosting fridges

so much to write about, so little time.
I shall start with news #1, which is that I am going to see Kings of Convenience in a few days. Kristine got me a ticket last week, and Patrick is coming as well.

this week has been insane at university. The Sound and Silence seminar was really good, but 6 lectures in a row (with only 5-minute breaks in-between, and 40 minutes for lunch) is a little too much for my tiny brain to concentrate on. The first speaker talked about John Cage, it was really interesting and thorough. Another lecturer rushed us through Yoko Ono, John Cage, Rauschenberg, Heidegger, Bruce Nauman, Victor Turner, the liminal space, and back to Yoko Ono in a little over 40 minutes – it was absolutely insane. the two lectures this morning were really good – the second one was amazing. It was beautiful as well as interesting and it got my brain working and thinking so much of a million things, I felt so much more perceptive to the outside world.

As for Fantoft life, we are getting used to sitting around in the C/D Block kitchens late at night talking about a billion different things. It took me a while last night to believe that it really was 5am, and that I really should be getting to sleep since I had to get up at 8. And because Fantoft is such an exciting place where adventures take place everyday, Ana and I decided to defrost our fridge three days ago. Our kitchen was half-flooded, courtesy of melting ice, and, after hours of me using a nail as an icebreaker, Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style, we removed a gigantic piece of ice from our freezer.

Score!

garbagelove

okay so bergen is not quite as cool as trondheim, BUT I did go dumpster-diving with Patrick today (meaning he jumped in there while I took care of his Space Invaders backpack,..) it was fun. It was a container close to the academy, on the harbour (so dirrrty) I screamed out in excitement when I saw a bunch of coke glasses. I got overly excited at the sight of a norwegian keyboard (obviously useless to me, but I took it anyway) . They were throwing out so much stuff, P was even considering getting the vaccuum cleaner too.
afterwards some girl started talking to us, and she asked if there were any food dumpsters around there, so we said no, but asked if she wanted some food (we’d just come back from the master degree students presentations, and they had free food there so we ‘stole’ sandwiches) I had one vegetarian one but obviously it was for me (especially since the fiskekaker episode), so patrick asked her if she was a veg., and she said that she was FREEGAN, god I love that word – so he gave her the extra ham sandwich he had and she was happy.

so far, my garbage excursions have brought me way too much for my own good. I actually OWN things here now, isn’t that weird?
