A couple of weeks ago, I found myself at a show of super-emo local band Rika. I had not seen them play in what felt like forever, and for the first time in many months, during the show, I felt transported by the music, back to the 90′s, it hitting me right in the guts. The music of Norwegian post-rock band Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson has a similar effect on me; their contemplative shoegaze and very long, beautiful, and heavy instrumentals make my heart explode and give me goosebumps. As of yesterday, this lovely band has made the album Past/Future available on bandcamp for (free) download. It’s a collection of demos and unreleased songs, with quite a few gems such as opener Game, Set, Match or the Citroen demo – perfect for the start of the autumn.
My name has five letters in it, and comes up in some Bright Eyes songs. I am (apparently) an artist, with too much time on her hands. Well, enough to blog (almost) daily. I am 1/4 (the smallest one, actually) of Lazy Acre Records; I also write & photograph for a
localmagazine based in Englaaand and makeused to draw musically-inspired comics for a canadian mag (RIP Inscribed). As if that wasn't enough, I book bands for a local experimental music venue called Subterrarium: we rock pretty hard. Sometimes I can be quite cute. I used tostill have a crush on Marty McFly; I like baking, overusing semi-colons, the smell of the sea, and thunderstorms.
I tend to be quite the busy bee, but if you make VERY sexy music and want me to listen and enjoy and possibly even (!!) write about it, shoot me a mail, baby. music(at)alicetragedy(dot)org
