Video of the Week #63

Set in a world where robots and humans coexist, I’m Here is one of Spike Jonze‘s most beautiful and touching films.

In it, he was able to portray very true and real feelings on screen, without falling into corniness – maybe because the characters are robots and so, though one identifies, the love story doesn’t seem as daft as it could be with humans. The music by Nick Zinner (of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame) is gorgeous and the costumes are brilliant.

Though the end does not necessarily come as a surprise, it does raise an important question of how far can selfless love go until it goes from being healthy to just feeding a dysfunctional relationship; I think we might have all been there (and wish we hadn’t and wonder why we have), which is maybe why I’m Here does a good job at, long after the screen goes black, letting one reflect on such a question.

You can watch I’m Here in its entirety on the official homepage.
